Decoration barrel 450-500 l - brandy

Used oak barrel 500 l. These barrels were filled with French brandy distillate at the Wilthen distillery until the end.

The Wilthener Weinbrennerei has been producing brandy according to the French model since 1885. It is one of the first and thus oldest distilleries in Germany. It has not only survived both world wars and the GDR, it has also produced one or two big names over the years - for example, both Hugo Asbach and his son completed their training at Wilthen.

The generic term "brandy," which was registered with the Imperial Patent Office in 1907, was a joint development of the Unternehmensverband Deutscher Cognac-Brennereien (German Cognac Distillers Association), to which Hugo Asbach's and Hünlich's companies also belonged.

The Wilthen distillery was family owned from 1842 - 1951. After expropriation and renaming to "VEB Weinbrand" - one of the leading companies in the GDR, it was then taken over in 1992 for lack of heirs by the count family von Hardenberg, who, however, appreciate tradition and history. This is how today's Hardenberg-Wilthen AG came into being.

The barrels can be used very well as a standing table, for decoration or as a display. The hoops are partially covered with flash rust and the barrels show the marks caused by years of brandy storage.
The barrels are technically in good condition, but no longer suitable for food use. They are cleaned with high pressure before shipment and the hoops are shot tight.

Each oak barrel is unique. Different colorings resulted from the precious contents that were once stored inside. Small notches in the wood or small irregularities are not quality defects but rather determined by the peculiarity of the construction and the previous use of the barrels. Hardly any other piece of furniture spreads so much authenticity, esprit and feel-good atmosphere as a wooden barrel, each telling a different story from days gone by.
