Rain barrel made of chestnut. These barrels are specifically made as decorative barrels unlike the oak barrels. The barrel head has been removed, made into a lid and a wooden handle added. A characteristic of chestnut wood is that it quickly darkens. Untreated barrels change their appearance when exposed to the weather. The hoops may be very quickly affected by flash rust and the tannins wash out of the barrel (tan). Therefore, do not place the chestnut barrels on high-quality patio slabs or paving stones.
