The usage of the barrel will not be affected by those! The barrels are very carefully checked by us at the exit control against sensor and technical errors. We assume no liability for cracks or splits that occur during maturation. A possible and a reasonable repair is not under guarantee. Pictures are examples, colour variations are possible Is Brandy only the number 2? I mean no, distillates especially matured in barrels of American or French oak, which have experienced a first occupation of sherry, I find great. Carefully matured in the Solera process or, in the case of large and valuable qualities, over years sometimes even decades in a barrel, one experiences true fireworks of flavor aromas and celebrations for the palate. Typical of the brandies from Spain and Portugal, from whose distillers we obtain our brandy barrels, is the taste of aromas such as plum, raisin, caramel and positively occupied by mahogany wood, to experience. Brandy is somewhat easier and more accessible to enjoy as Cognac, certainly also conditioned as already mentioned by the storage in American oak barrels, which by nature already give a very large vanillin share to the distillate during maturation and finally the influence of sherry from these barrels - it is the sweetness that is associated with this and makes the brandy a favorite not only among connoisseurs! From our point of view, one of the most aroma-rich barrels for restocking with a profound finesse, a mouth caressing for the subsequent distillates and beers in the restocking.

STR Cask - Shave, Toast, Re-charred. A cask that offers a combo of fresh Virgin Oak and first-fill red wine cask. As in new oak casks, the whiskey matures faster than in used casks. It still benefits from the fruity red wine notes of the pre-ageing. Dr. Jim Swan, a chemist and biologist by training and a passionate whisky expert, developed this special process. ShaveThe first step is to "shave" the cask. First, the cask is opened and the inner layer, heavily saturated with red wine, is scraped out. This gives the cask a combination of light red wine aromas and fresh oak (virgin oak).ToastThe exposed interior of the barrel is now toasted anew, by burning oak chips from old whiskey barrels. During this process, the sugar and vanillin in the oak caramelize and corresponding spicy and sweet notes are particularly accentuated. Re-charrFinally, the barrels are burned out once again to release as many aromas as possible and at the same time remove unwanted flavor carriers such as tart tannins and chemical compounds like lignin, cellulose, or hemicellulose. By default, the drums are equipped with a used wooden or plastic bung. If you want a new silicone bung, you can order it under accessories (type standard - C16).
