Bourbon barrel 190 l - Old Forester 1920 Bourbon
Bourbon barrel, freshly emptied ca. 190 l, from the distillery Old Forester in the USA. Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style Whisky is a product whose name says it all. To understand its significance, one must look back to the year 1920 and the “Volstead Act of 1920.” During Prohibition in the United States, only six distilleries in Kentucky were permitted to continue distilling bourbon for medicinal purposes—Old Forester among them. It is also the only bourbon that was sold by the same company before, during, and after Prohibition. What makes it special: during Prohibition, the whisky was only allowed to be bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV). Since the whisky entered the barrel at 100 proof, it reached a barrel strength of 115 proof (57.5% ABV) after the angel’s share. As a tribute to that era, Old Forester released the 1920 Prohibition Style Bourbon at 115 proof. These port wine barrels from Portugal, or to be more precise precisely from the Duoro Valley, offer an explosion of flavours. The barrels were used for Lagrima - the white port wine. With a high residual sugar content of up to 140 g/l, the full glory of the sweet fruit unfolds. The white grapes are macerated in the old port wine tradition. The aroma is anything but flat, instead it is composed of different notes: the golden wine brings an opulence of deep floral rose notes, delicate wood, light toffee, a hint of honey honey, rounded off with a very subtle salty taste on the palate. As your product matures within the white port wine barrel, the developing structure attains more complex depths that are interesting and extravagant at the same time.
