Freshly emptied Tawny port wine barrels.
The grapes of the Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and Tinto Cão varieties are first pressed and the must is left to ferment.
The actual process that turns wine into port wine is "fortification", i.e. the spraying of the fermenting must with high percentage ethyl alcohol. Here the fermentation of the port wine is stopped by adding wine distillate. The further the wine is fermented, the less brandy is added. Port wine may have an alcohol content of between 19 and 22% by volume as the end product.
Port wine of the Tawny type is stored for two to three years in a large tank, but is then transferred to the small barrels. There they acquire a taste reminiscent of dry fruit (nuts, almonds, etc.) and lighten up. The colour spectrum ranges from garnet red, chestnut red, orange-red brown to very light amber or gold tones.

Barrel will be deliverd with a wooden or silicon bung.
Used wooden barrels: Notches in the wood or, in certain circumstances, an uneven base, do not constitute a quality defect, but stem from the idiosyncrasies of the production method and the prior use of the barrels. The usage of the barrel will not be affected by those! The barrels are very carefully checked by us at the exit control against sensor and technical errors. We assume no liability for cracks or splits that occur during maturation. A possible and a reasonable repair is not under guarantee.
