The history of Château Lafite dates back to 1234 with the naming of a Gombaud de Lafite (abbot of the monastery of Vertheuil north of Pauillac). It was not until 1868 that Baron James de Rothschild bought the château and gave it the name Château Lafite-Rothschild. During the Second World War, the Château was confiscated by Germany and could only return to family ownership five years later.
Tradition and technical progress go hand in hand at Château Lafite-Rothschild. For example, the barrique barrels used are made in the area surrounding the château in Pauillac, and the toastings are specially adapted to the wines stored in them.
Used wooden barrels: Notches in the wood or, in certain circumstances, an uneven base, do not
constitute a quality defect, but stem from the idiosyncrasies of the production method and the prior use of the barrels. The usage of the barrel will not be affected by those! The barrels are very carefully checked by us at the exit control against sensor and technical errors. We assume no liability for cracks or splits that occur during maturation. A possible and a reasonable repair is not under guarantee.
