Freshly emptied port wine barrel approx. 550 l - 600 l
The Zeller family, known as the old nobility in the Douro, is one of the best port wine producers around. Full of new ideas, full of vitality and drive, the descendant Christiano van Zeller produces great port wines in recent years.
The barrels are about 30 years old and were occupied with Tawny Port since the beginning. After emptying, the barrels were checked in our cooperage and if necessary, individual staves were replaced.
Port wine, the classic among beverages and in many parts of the world is part of the standard equipment of a good wine house. The "Porto" is produced in the north of Portugal, in the Douro Valley. Only grapes from this oldest, protected cultivation area of the world may be refined to port wine. Thus, the quality, of the wines produced there, is ensured.
How port wine is made: The fermentation of the wine is stopped by the addition of high-proof brandy. This leaves a higher residual sweetness and the quality becomes more consistent.
Origin: Familia Van Zeller
Pre-fermentation: Tawny Port, residual sugar content ca.110 g/l.
Height: 143 cm
Ø Belly: 95 cm
Ø Head: 65 cm
Used wooden barrels: Notches in the wood or, in certain circumstances, an uneven base, do not constitute a quality defect, but stem from the idiosyncrasies of the production method and the prior use of the barrels. The usage of the barrel will not be affected by those! The barrels are very carefully checked by us at the exit control against sensor and technical errors. We assume no liability for cracks or splits that occur during maturation. A possible and a reasonable repair is not under guarantee.
