Freshly emptied tawny port wine barrels.
The grapes of the Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and Tinto Cão varieties are first pressed and the must is set to ferment.
The actual process that turns wine into port is "fortification," which is the spiking of the fermenting must with high-proof ethyl alcohol. Here, the fermentation of the port is stopped by adding wine distillate. The more the wine is fermented, the less brandy is added. Port wine as a final product may have an alcohol content between 19 and 22% by volume.
Tawny type port wine is stored in a large tank for two to three years, but then transferred to the small barrels. There they acquire a flavor reminiscent of dry fruits (nuts, almonds, etc.) and lighten. The color spectrum ranges from garnet red, chestnut red to an orange-reddish brown and very light amber or golden tones.
Stave length: 84 cm
Ø Belly: 57 cm

By default, the drums are equipped with a used wooden or plastic bung. If you want a new silicone bung, you can order it under accessories (type standard - C16).
Please note that the number of liters is nominal size in case of dismantling. However, there may be deviations by calibration.
Used wooden barrels: Notches in the wood or, in certain circumstances, an uneven base, do not
constitute a quality defect, but stem from the idiosyncrasies of the production method and the prior use of the barrels. The usage of the barrel will not be affected by those! The barrels are very carefully checked by us at the exit control against sensor and technical errors. We assume no liability for cracks or splits that occur during maturation. A possible and a reasonable repair is not under guarantee.
